4. View the 25 assigned pictures from the trail cameras. For each picture you should do the following
- Identify and list each species of animal in that picture (use the field guide)
- Record how many of each species of animal you count in that picture
5. Classify each species of animal that you saw in the trail cam pictures as a primary consumer, secondary consumer, tertiary consumer, etc. (Use the field guide for information on what each species eats) Use the most commonly eaten source of food to classify each animal.
6. Group the animals together by consumer type (i.e all the primary consumers together, all the secondary consumers together, etc).
7. Calculate the total weight of each of the groups of consumers. To do this:
- Calculate the total weight of each species in that group by multiplying the total number of each species counted by the average weight of that species
- Add the total weights of all the animals in a consumer group together
8. Calculate the total weight of ALL the animals seen in the trail cam pictures. To do this:
- Add the total weights of the primary consumers, secondary consumers, and tertiary consumers
9. Calculate what % of the total weight each consumer group represents. To do this:
- Divide the total weight of each consumer group by the total weight of all the animals. Example: (total weight of primary consumers)/(total weight of all animals)
10. Construct a biomass pyramid.

Food Webs and Competitive Exclusion Simulator
Below is a link for a food web and competitive exclusion simulator. This assignment was done in class on Tuesday Nov 29th.
LINK TO FOOD WEB SIMULATOR
You will use this simulator to answer the following questions:
1. If you select just two plants and run the simulation, after 100 days only one of the plants is left and the other plant is no longer in the ecosystem. Why did the one plant disappear?
2. Create a food web so that all three species of plants survive the 100 days and are still in the ecosystem. Draw the food web on a piece of paper.
3. Create a food web using all 9 species. Draw your food web on a piece of paper. Then run the simulation for 100 days. At the end of the 100 days record the population for all 9 species on your paper.
4. Remove one species from the food web you created in question 3. Now run the simulation again for 100 days. At the end of the 100 days record the population of the 8 remaining species. Which species were effected by removing that one species from your food web.
5. Challenge: create a food web that will allow for all 9 species to survive for 100 days. You will likely have to try several different food webs to make this work. When you find the one that works, write that food web on a piece of paper, record the population of each species after 100 days, then graph the population graph for each species.

Unit 12 Organ Systems Study Packets
Below is a link for two study packets on organ systems. The first study packet covers the digestive, muscular, skeletal, nervous, and integumentary systems. The second packet covers the circulatory, respiratory, lymphatic, excretory, and endocrine systems. These packets were given in class on April 11th and are due on April 15th by 7:30am.
These packets are graded on a pass/fail basis. Students who do not receive a score of at least 80% will receive a failing grade for both of these packets and for their Unit 12 test on Organ Systems. Students are allowed to take these study packets twice a day until the due date. Once a student reaches a score of 80% they make keep retaking the study packet to try and get a better score.
Students may use ANY resource to answer the questions in this packet (videos, books, internet articles).

Class Instructions for March 10th
I had a family emergency last night that requires me to stay home today. So the test has been postponed one day, we'll take the test on Friday when I am back. Pigeonetics assignment will also be due on Friday now.
For today (Thursday) you should do the following:
1. Finish watching any videos you haven't watched
2. Work on your study packets
3. Work on pigeonetics if you haven't finished it yet.
4. Do research and work on the dog genetics assignment.
If you have done all of those things, there is a video clip on EdPuzzle from the movie Gattaca. Gattaca is a science fiction movie where society has fully adopted genetic testing of all people. Watch the 6 minute video clip and then answer the questions at the end. The questions are open ended questions and I expect you to write at least 2 paragraphs worth for each question.
For everyone who hadn't completed their study packets, or hadn't studied enough for the test all I have to say is you got lucky once, don't count on it happening again.
